Why Understanding How to Find an In-Network Doctor with Ambetter Health Matters

In today’s video, we’re going to walk through the process of finding an in-network doctor with Ambetter Health. This is a crucial step to ensure you’re covered and avoid unexpected medical bills.

To begin, head over to ambetterhealth.com. On the homepage, look for the “Find a Doctor” link on the right-hand side. Click that, and you’ll be taken to the provider search tool.

For this tutorial, we’ll proceed as if you’re a guest and not signed into an account—just to keep things simple. First, scroll down and select your home state. In this example, we’re using Arizona. Then, choose your coverage year and county. Be sure to select the correct county—here, we’re choosing Maricopa County—and click “Continue.”

Now comes an important step: selecting your plan network. You’ll see two options—Select Network and Bronze/Silver/Gold Network. It’s very important to refer to your plan documents, confirmation emails, or any paperwork you received to verify which network you’re enrolled in. For this example, we’ll go with the Select Network, which is typically the more affordable plan many people have.

Once you’re inside the directory, you can search for doctors using a variety of filters. You can search by name, specialty, location, and more. For instance, I searched for a specific provider, Dr. Noriega, but since she wasn’t listed, that means she’s out-of-network. So instead, I searched for “family doctor near me” in Phoenix, Arizona, and got a full list of in-network providers sorted by distance.

You can also adjust your search by specialty—say you’re looking for a cardiologist. Just type in “cardiologist,” and the system will display all in-network specialists in your area.

It’s really that straightforward. If you ever feel stuck or have questions, we’re here to help. We hope this walkthrough makes it easier for you to navigate your Ambetter Health plan and find the care you need, when you need it.

How to Find an In-Network Doctor with Ambetter Health

Step 1: Visit the Ambetter Website

Start by going to ambetterhealth.com. On the right-hand side of the homepage, you’ll find a link that says “Find a Doctor.” Click on that to begin your search. 💡 Tip: If you’re already signed into your member account, the page may look slightly different—but the process is similar.

Step 2: Continue as a Guest

For the purpose of this walkthrough, we’ll continue as if you’re not logged in—just browsing as a guest. Scroll down and choose your home state. In this example, we’re using Arizona. Next, choose your coverage year and county (for example, Maricopa County). Hit Continue.

Step 3: Select the Right Plan Network

This step is crucial! You’ll be prompted to choose between two plan networks:
  • Select Network
  • Bronze, Silver, Gold Network
Check your plan documents, confirmation email, or any paperwork you received when you enrolled to determine which network you’re in. In our case, we selected the Select Network, which is the more affordable, limited network that many Ambetter members are enrolled in.

Step 4: Start Your Doctor Search

Now that you’re in the provider directory, you can start searching for doctors. You can:
  • Search by name (if you’re looking for a specific doctor)
  • Search by specialty (e.g., “family doctor” or “cardiologist”)
  • Apply filters like distance, language, gender, and more
For example, if you’re looking for a family doctor in Phoenix, Arizona, just type in “Family Doctor” and hit search. The results will show in-network providers, starting with the ones closest to your location. If your current doctor doesn’t appear in the search results, they may be out of network, which means they might not be covered under your plan.

Step 5: Explore Specialists

Need a specialist like a cardiologist? Simply update your search criteria. Type in the specialty you’re looking for, and the site will display a list of in-network providers in your area.

Finding an in-network provider with Ambetter Health is easy once you know where to look and what to select.
